From a merchant statement
Also billed as Gateway access fee, Gateway monthly fee.
What is a gateway fee?
A monthly or per-transaction charge for the gateway, the software layer that carries a card-not-present transaction from your website or terminal to the processing network. Common on e-commerce and keyed accounts.
Who charges it and why
Sometimes a third-party gateway with its own real price; often the processor reselling that gateway, or its own, with margin added. The line rarely distinguishes which, and the resold version can cost a multiple of the direct one.
What fair looks like
Fair looks like the gateway priced at what it costs, visible and unbundled, or included outright. Payzium does not bill a separate gateway line on top of its published pricing.
Can you get rid of it
If the gateway is billed by your processor, ask what the direct price of the same gateway is; the gap is the markup and it is negotiable. If it is bundled and opaque, a statement review will show what the line adds up to across a year.
See what this line is costing you
Upload a statement and Rate Check reads every line, this one included, against what the same profile costs on Payzium.
