- Card-present surcharging

Or pay 0% on credit cards.

Pass the credit card fee to the customer where allowed. You keep 100% of the sale. Standard debit rates still apply. Compliant with the major card networks.

- what's in the rate

What you're actually paying for.

When other processors charge for these separately, they're double-dipping. We bundle them, because they're already covered by the spread between interchange and the rate.

Card network interchange

Paid through to Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, and Discover. This is the largest cost in your rate and it's the same for everyone in the industry. Non-negotiable.

Risk + fraud monitoring

Real-time fraud scoring on every transaction, chargeback dispute handling, and underwriting. Most processors charge $7 to $15 per month for this. We don't.

Statements + reporting

Detailed monthly statements, real-time dashboard, transaction-level fee breakdowns, exports. Industry average $10 per month. $0 on Payzium.

PCI compliance

Annual PCI questionnaire, vulnerability scanning, encryption at the terminal. Industry average $19.95 per month. $0 on Payzium. Genuinely.

Daily settlement

Daily batch close, next-day funding to your bank. Most processors charge $0.25 per batch. 365 batches a year, $91 saved annually. Included.

Support, by humans

Real people, real phones, real answers. Monday to Friday 9 AM to 9 PM Eastern, plus 24/7 critical issue escalation. Included.

- the questions we hear

What you're actually wondering.

What's the catch?

There isn't one, and that's the awkward part of an honest pricing page. The rate is real, the absence of junk fees is real, and the promise is enforceable in writing.

Our margin is the spread between interchange (what the card networks charge us) and the rate you pay. On a 1.26% card, interchange averages 1.6 to 1.9% depending on card type, and we make 30 to 50 bps. That's the whole business model. Everything we don't charge for is everything our competitors padded their margins with.

How are you cheaper than Square or Stripe?

Square and Stripe are aggregators. They take on the underwriting risk of letting anyone sign up in 5 minutes by charging a flat rate (2.6% or 2.7%) that's wide enough to cover their riskiest merchants.

Payzium runs traditional acquiring: each merchant gets underwritten properly, gets their own merchant ID, and gets a rate that reflects their actual risk profile. The trade-off is a slightly longer approval window in exchange for a much lower rate.

Do I need to sign a contract?

No. Month-to-month, no early termination fee, no minimum commitment. Close your account whenever you want for any reason.

The only commitment is on hardware leases, which are 36 months if you choose to lease instead of buy. Buy the terminal outright if you'd rather not commit.

What's the application like?

Five minutes online. We ask for business info (name, address, BN), owner info (name, date of birth, banking details for the underwriting check), banking info (transit, institution, account number for deposits), and a recent bank statement.

Most applications are auto-approved same day. Complex cases (high-risk industries, large transactions, recent business formation) may need a 24 to 48 hour manual review. You'll know which path you're on as soon as you submit.

When do I get paid?

Next business day for transactions batched before 9 PM Eastern. We don't hold funds, we don't roll reserves, we don't do anything unusual with the timing. Card runs Monday, money lands Tuesday.

Same-day funding is available for an additional 0.5% on the transaction if speed matters more than cost. Most merchants don't need it.

What about surcharging?

Surcharging is the practice of passing the credit card fee to the customer at the point of sale. It's legal across Canada with specific disclosure rules. We handle the compliance: the terminal prompts the surcharge automatically, prints it on the receipt, and reports it correctly.

Your debit card transactions still process at our standard rate, because surcharging on debit isn't permitted. If your card mix is 60% credit / 40% debit, you'll save roughly 0.75% net on every transaction.

What's a qualified rate?

Card networks categorize transactions by risk and reward type. Standard consumer debit and basic credit cards qualify for the lowest rate (qualified). Rewards cards, corporate cards, and certain card-not-present transactions fall into higher tiers (mid-qualified or non-qualified).

Most processors hide the higher tiers in fine print. We surface them on the full rate card so you can see exactly what each card type costs. For a typical SMB card mix, the effective rate sits at 1.30 to 1.40%.

What if I'm currently with Square or Stripe?

We'll migrate you in under 7 days. Our team handles the merchant ID setup, the gateway swap (if you use Stripe online), and the terminal swap (if you use Square in person).

You don't have to coordinate anything beyond signing the application and pointing your bank account at the new MID. We keep both setups live until your first successful batch on Payzium, then you can deactivate the old one.

What if my chargeback rate is high?

Card networks define high-risk merchant categories that face stricter underwriting. We don't board high-risk merchants directly, but we can refer you to a partner that specializes in your category.

If your business is standard (restaurant, retail, professional services, healthcare, etc.) and your chargeback ratio is below 1%, you'll qualify without issue. If you're not sure, just apply. The decisioning will tell you in 24 to 48 hours.
