where Moneris is actually the right call

Moneris has the broadest distribution in Canada and the deepest enterprise fraud tools. If you're running multi-location operations with $1M+/month in volume, you're already negotiating Simplified Pricing, and the math may work for you. If you're a single-location SMB on Moneris Flat Rate (2.65% + 10¢), you're paying for infrastructure you don't need.

Comparing statements
the math at $40,000/month, 800 transactions

$827 vs $532.

Same volume, same transactions, different rate structure.

Monthly savings with Payzium: about $295. Annual: about $3,540. Plus you stop paying any future rate adjustments your current processor sends.

Moneris Flat Rate

  • Processing (credit): 2.65% × $28,000 + 10¢ × 560 tx =$798/mo
  • Processing (Interac debit): 12¢ × 240 tx =$29/mo
  • Total:$827/mo

Payzium wholesale-plus

  • Processing (credit): ~1.74% × $28,000 + 5¢ × 560 tx =$515/mo
  • Processing (Interac debit): 5¢ × 240 tx =$12/mo
  • Merchant account: $5/mo
  • Total:$532/mo

assumes 70/30 credit/debit mix by volume, $50 average ticket, 800 transactions; Moneris Flat Rate at 2.65% + 10¢ on credit, 12¢ flat per Interac debit; Payzium side priced by our live interchange engine for this profile, the same one the calculator runs: credit rate (~1.74%) = Visa and Mastercard credit interchange (~1.31%) + network assessments (~0.13%) + 0.30% margin, plus 5¢ per credit tx, 5¢ flat per Interac debit tx, $5/month merchant account; it moves when the card networks change their published schedules, and your actual card mix moves it too. Pure processing comparison; terminal hardware not included on either side.

Moneris bills hardware separately on most Flat Rate accounts, typically through a terminal lease. We don't include hardware in our processing-cost comparison because hardware pricing depends on your specific plan and whether you bought your terminal outright versus leasing it. We'll cover hardware comparisons on a dedicated page (coming soon).

if you signed at the bank

Signed at BMO or RBC?

You're on Moneris.

BMO and RBC merchant services run on Moneris. In August 2026 the two banks agreed to sell Moneris to Francisco Partners and to keep referring their business clients to it. If you signed your merchant agreement at BMO or RBC, your card processing is on Moneris and this page's analysis applies to your account.

if your agreement has an early termination fee

If your current agreement has an early termination fee, Pay less or it's free covers up to CA$1,000 of it.

Some merchant agreements with any processor include early termination fees. If your Moneris agreement has one, switching to Payzium may trigger that fee. We've built coverage for it into our guarantee. Pay less or it's free covers up to CA$1,000 of that ETF. If yours is over the cap, we'll still cover the first CA$1,000, you cover the gap.

Eligible Payzium-controlled processing cost only. Interchange and network fees excluded.
honest filter

Who should switch.

Who should stay.

Switch to Payzium if

  • You're on Moneris Flat Rate (2.65% + 10¢)
  • You process under $1M/month
  • You want pricing math you can verify against published interchange
  • You want to stop future rate adjustments from your current processor

Stay on Moneris if

  • You're enterprise with $1M+/month already on negotiated Simplified Pricing
  • You depend on Moneris-specific integrations Payzium doesn't have yet
  • You're a multi-location franchise locked into a corporate agreement
what switching looks like

Five steps.

  1. We prepare your previous processor cancellation paperwork and walk you through filing it.

  2. We ship the terminal day-of-approval.

  3. You keep your bank account.

  4. We handle the tax-rate setup and recurring-billing migration.

  5. You go live on Payzium.

Honest math.

Decide from there. Wholesale-plus pricing at interchange + 0.30% + 5¢ Tier 1 margin. Backed by Pay less or it's free. No setup fee, no PCI fee, no monthly minimum, no junk fees. Eligible Payzium-controlled processing cost only. Interchange and network fees excluded.
