Turn more tables into profit.

About $6,345 a year back in your business on $75,000 a month in card sales, compared with Square.

Restaurants run on 5% margins, so every 1% of processing markup costs 20% of your profit. Payzium passes interchange through at cost, your bill matches the rate card, and tonight's sales land in your account tomorrow.

Four cost mechanisms every restaurant pays for.

  1. Tip-handling surcharges

Tip-handling structures vary by processor and POS. Some processors charge a separate per-tip line item on tipped transactions, especially on closed bundles. Others wrap the tip into the standard rate but charge the merchant the full processing fee on the tip portion of every ticket, including tips the merchant does not keep. Either way, the math is the same: you pay processing on income the stylist or server takes home, not the restaurant. We do not surcharge tipped transactions.

  2. Debit and Interac markup

Canadian debit transactions split between two networks. Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit run on the credit card rails, with interchange typically 0.20 to 0.50 percent depending on transaction type. A flat-rate processor like Square Canada charges 2.5% on credit and 0.75% + 7 cents on Interac in person. On a $50 Interac transaction, that is about 45 cents in processing on Square Canada. Across a year of restaurant Interac volume, the gap is meaningful. We pass debit interchange and Interac fees through at cost. No tier inflation.

  3. AmEx OptBlue routing

Restaurants index high on AmEx volume. AmEx runs through the OptBlue program in Canada, where Visa and Mastercard acquirers process AmEx transactions. Most processors mark up OptBlue rates differently than Visa and Mastercard, often without telling the merchant the spread. We disclose our AmEx OptBlue markup. No hidden spread.

  4. Hidden terminal-lease terms

Pay-at-table terminals are typically leased on 48-month, non-cancellable contracts with per-terminal insurance, and the leases are not rent-to-own. The lease company is legally separate from the processor, so closing your merchant account does not close the lease. The terms are real and binding; the problem is when they are not disclosed up front. We disclose ours: rental terms on /hardware, processing rates on /pricing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the rate my current processor quoted me?

Most processors quote a blended or tiered rate that includes a hidden margin on top of interchange. The Honest Rate Promise is in your contract: any line item not disclosed at signup is refunded at 2x. · Payzium-controlled fees only

What if I am on Toast, Square, or Lightspeed Restaurant right now?

Toast, Square, and Lightspeed Restaurant all bundle their POS with their own processing. To run on Payzium rates, you need to be on a POS that lets you choose your processor. We include hardware as part of the switch (rental or lease on the hardware side, separate from processing), and we handle the menu and data migration. TouchBistro and Squirrel both support third-party processing through standard integrations, so those are simpler swaps. If you are mid-contract on Toast, Square, or Lightspeed and want to wait it out, we will tell you when to come back.

What happens if my volume changes?

We have four pricing tiers. You move to the better tier automatically when your trailing 3-month average crosses the threshold. No renegotiation, no calls.

How fast can I switch?

It depends on your current setup. Open POS merchants (TouchBistro, Squirrel, most others) plug in directly. Closed-bundle POS merchants (Toast, Square, Lightspeed Restaurant) move once the hardware swap completes. We confirm the path with you before you sign.

What is "Pay less or it's free"? · Payzium-controlled fees only

Your first 90 days on Payzium have to cost you less than your old processor did. We compare your effective rate on Payzium against your most recent prior-processor statement, like for like, normalized if your volume or card mix shifts so the comparison stays honest. If you do not pay less, we refund the eligible Payzium fees you paid in those 90 days and put up to CA$1,000 toward moving you to another processor. You keep any savings either way. Full terms on /pay-less. · Payzium-controlled fees only

What about delivery platforms (UberEats, DoorDash, Grubhub, SkipTheDishes)?

Those are separate. Delivery platforms process card-not-present transactions on their own merchant accounts and remit you net of their service fees. Payzium handles your in-store and direct-online processing. We do not touch delivery-platform settlements, and they do not show up in Payzium statements.
